The retail price of electricity at the consumer level has been increased by 19 paisa (Tk 0.19) per unit. The new price is being implemented from the first day of this month. The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources informed this information on Thursday.
The ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard stating 5% hike of the power tariff.
Earlier, on January 8, a public hearing was held on the proposal of transmission and distribution companies at Biam Auditorium in the capital. After the public hearing, the technical committee of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) recommended an increase of Tk 1.21 per unit.
The move to hike the retail price of electricity comes after the price was hiked by 19.92% at the producers' end in December 2022.
