Price of 12kg LPG cylinder reduced by Tk 28, effective from this evening

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has announced a reduction in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sold by private operators, setting the new rate for a 12kg cylinder at Tk 1,403—down by Tk 28 from the previous month’s price of Tk 1,431.

BERC Chairman Jalal Ahmed disclosed the new pricing in a press conference held at the commission’s office on Monday, stating that the updated rate would come into effect from 6:00 PM the same day.

According to BERC, the revised price per kilogram, including VAT, is now Tk 116.94, compared to Tk 119.24 in May, reflecting a decrease of Tk 2.30 per kilogram.

This price adjustment follows BERC’s monthly review policy, introduced in April 2021, which links domestic LPG prices to fluctuations in the international market, specifically the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP) for propane and butane—the two main components of LPG.

Importers’ invoice values and the average exchange rate of the US dollar are also factored into the pricing model. Despite the regulated pricing, concerns remain about the sale of LPG at higher prices in local markets.

Meanwhile, the price of a 12.5kg cylinder supplied by state-owned companies remains unchanged at Tk 825.

The rate of autogas, or LPG used in vehicles, has also been revised, now set at Tk 64.30 per litre, down from Tk 65.57.

BERC emphasized that the price adjustments are based on international market trends and urged compliance to ensure consumers benefit from the revised rates.
