Public transport to resume on Thursday

The government has decided to ease the ongoing lockdown which was imposed nationwide in a bid to curb coronavirus infection.

Cabinet sources said, the decision has been taken considering upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.

According to the new decision, the restrictions will be softened for 8 days starting from Thursday (July 15).

Public transport will resume on condition of keeping half of seats vacant and abiding by other safety protocols.

Shops and shopping malls will remain open. Government offices will run virtually, however, private offices will remain closed.

Cabinet sources said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has nodded the new decision.

The file of approval has been sent to cabinet division. Gazette notification will be issued once the high-ups signal.

Decision taken to check rush of homebound people

According to the lockdown extensions rules, the decision will be enforced at 6am on July 23 and continue till July 23 midnight.

Stern restrictions will resume in place for 14 days after Eid festival.

Such decision has been taken to ease Eid travel, the ministry sources said.

Bangladesh entered a stricter lockdown since July 1 aiming to check spread of the deadly coronavirus. The restrictions will beat the clock on July 14 midnight.
