After weeks of extreme heat, Dhaka residents witnessed rain this afternoon for the first time. According to meteorologists, the rain is going to cause the temperature to decrease.
Rain began around 5:15 p.m., bringing much-needed relief, along with severe wind and thunderstorms. It lasted only a few minutes and ended at 5:50. However, the sky remains gloomy, indicating the chance of further rain.
"Raining started in Dhaka and many other parts of the country in the afternoon," said Bazlur Rashid, meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
"More rain is expected tonight and tomorrow," he said, adding that it will lead to a "drop in temperature."
According to the weather conditions for the next 72 hours, the likelihood of rain or thundershowers may continue. Day temperature may decrease by (1-3) degrees Celsius and night temperature may decrease slightly over the country.
