The coal-fired Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant at Rampal upazila of Bagerhat resumed production late on Wednesday after a month of closure due to a coal shortage.
At 11:03 pm on Wednesday a unit of the power plant was restarted, said Anwarul Azim, deputy general manager of the plant.
Production at the plant was halted due to coal shortage in mid-January.
The plant generated 100 MW of power at night, 200 MW in the morning and will move up to 400 MW in accordance with grid demand.
On Feb 9 a coal-bearing ship carrying 30,000 tonnes of coal arrived at the jetty to the power plant. Another ship carrying 55,000 tonnes of coal is scheduled to arrive on Feb 18.
The plant started trial operation on December 18, adding 660 megawatt (MW) electricity to the national grid from Unit-I.
Earlier, India-Bangladesh Power Sector Cooperation, Unit-I of the 2x660 MW Maitree Super Thermal Power Project was successfully synchronized with the national grid on August 15, 2022 injecting 91.7 MW of electricity to the national grid.
In June, 2023, 660 MW more electricity will be synchronized to the national grid from Unit-II, officials hope.
