Authorities have renamed a street in New York USA as ‘Little Bangladesh Avenue’. The new renaming road has been officially inaugurated in Jamaica on 21 February marking International Mother Language Day.
Expatriate Bangladeshis have become overjoyed at the news of the city authority's decision to rename Little Bangladesh Avenue from Hillside Avenue in Jamaica of New York.
Many have commented that this decision of the city authorities in the face of long-standing Bangladeshi this is one of those very happy occasions today.
“We have to remember that and so again my district is right across the street I see so many of my friends here and I was listening to the words about International Mother Language Day make some noise if you're excited about the Little Bangladesh Avenue,” State Assemblyman David Weprin said while addressing the renaming ceremony.
Later, the participants sang Bangladesh’s national anthem in chorus.
