Bangladesh continues to grapple with the spread of dengue fever as 375 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported that the highest number of new cases—121—were recorded in the Barishal division alone. Fortunately, no deaths due to dengue were reported during this period.

This year, dengue has claimed the lives of 58 individuals, while a total of 15,585 patients have been hospitalized nationwide since January.

In the ongoing month of July, 5,289 people have already been admitted to hospitals, and 16 dengue-related deaths have occurred so far.

As of now, 1,210 dengue patients remain under treatment in various government and private hospitals.

Among them, 334 are receiving care in Dhaka-based facilities, while 876 are being treated outside the capital in other divisions.

The DGHS has also shared monthly data indicating a steady rise in hospital admissions since the start of the year.

In January, 1,161 patients were hospitalized with 10 reported deaths. February and March saw 374 and 336 cases respectively, with three deaths in February and none in March.

In April, hospitalizations rose to 701, accompanied by seven deaths. May experienced 1,773 admissions and three deaths, while June saw a significant surge with 5,951 cases and 19 fatalities.

Health authorities continue to urge the public to take preventive measures to curb mosquito breeding, remain cautious, and seek medical attention promptly upon showing any dengue-related symptoms.
