At least ten people were injured, several of them by gunfire, in a three-way clash at the E, G, and F Block of Ukhiya`s Rohingya Camps 3 and 4 last night.
The injured include Ziaur Rahman, a resident of Block F-72 in Ukhiya’s Kutupalong Camp 3, and Shawkat Ali, from Block A-11 of Camp 5. The identities of the other victims are yet to be confirmed. Following the incident, the seriously injured were taken to various hospitals within the camps for treatment.
The clash erupted on Friday night in areas including Mochra Bazar and parts of Camps 3, 4, and 5. The conflict involved the Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO), general Rohingya residents, and the Armed Police Battalion (APBN). Around fifty rounds of gunfire were exchanged during the incident. During the chaos, enraged Rohingya residents demolished 25 shanties belonging to RSO members in Block E of Camp 4 and vandalized nearly ten shops owned by suspected militants.
No official statements were made by members of the Armed Police Battalion, who are responsible for the security of the Rohingya camps. However, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ukhiya Police Station, Shamim Hossain, commented, "We have heard about the three-way clash in the Rohingya camps. Several individuals have been shot and are currently receiving treatment at Cox`s Bazar Sadar Hospital."
