A 30-year-old woman lost her life and four others including a newly-wed bridegroom went missing yesterday as a trawler carrying wedding guests capsized in the river Tetulia at Auliapur Launch Ghat of Rangopaldi union of the Dashmina Upazila of Patuakhali. The missing people are still not found even after 15 hours.
The missing are - Groom Rabbi (25) son of Monir Howladar of Auliapur village in Rangopaldi Union of Upazila, his mother Selina Begum (45), cousins Khadija (7) and, Maria (8).
The accident took place yesterday at around 4:30 pm in Charapati area of Tetulia river in Patuakhali upazila. At that time, the body of a woman named Lipi Begum (28) was recovered.
According to police and local sources, Rabbi got married to Humayun Kabir's daughter Sumaiya of North Shahjalal village at noon. After the wedding ceremony at around 4 pm, the groom's trawler left for Auliapur. On the way, the trawler with 20 passengers sank due to a storm when it reached Charapati area of Tetulia river. At that time, 15 people swam to the shore, but five members of the groom's family including the groom went missing. Later, the fishermen recovered the floating body of a woman named Lipi Begum.
