Mass vaccination drive is set to begin in Bangladesh this week. Health authorities will start administering the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine from Tuesday (September 7).
On Sunday (September 5), Dr Shamsul Haque, the member secretary of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Vaccine Deployment Committee told the media that citizens could receive their second dose of coronavirus vaccine from the same centre where they received their first dose.
From 9:00 am to 11:00 am, senior citizens and women will be prioritized for the jabs, added the DGHS official.
He also disclosed that adequate supply of vaccines have been sent to districts and upazila vaccination centres.
He added that breastfeeding mothers and pregnant women who were yet to receive the text message could go to their registered centres and get inoculated.
Moreover, he also said that by displaying a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their doctors pregnant and lactating mothers could receive a vaccine dose.
They (lactating mothers and pregnant women) may visit their registered centres even if they did not receive the text message for vaccination yet.
Health authorities are also taking initiatives to administer vaccine shots to students without NID cards, so they can register only through birth certificates, he added.
Data from the DGHS revealed that over 50 lakh people were inoculated from August 7 and August 12, when the government kicked off the first walk-in vaccination drive.
The campaign allowed all citizens in the eligible age group to receive a vaccine shot by only showing their NID cards.
However many people were left high and dry as despite having NIDs they had to go unvaccinated due to shortage of vaccine doses at centres.
