Bangladesh received $1.6239 billion in remittances during the first 15 days of June, with expatriates sending an average of about $108.3 million per day.
The information was disclosed on Tuesday by Arif Hossain Khan, who is currently serving as spokesperson for the Bangladesh Bank.
He said remittance inflows totaled $1.62386 billion between June 1 and June 15 this year, compared with $1.47986 billion during the same period last year, indicating a year-on-year increase in remittance earnings.
According to Bangladesh Bank data, total remittance inflows from July of the current fiscal year to June 15 reached $34.38066 billion, marking an 18.61 percent increase compared with the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
Earlier, Bangladesh received $3.42503 billion in remittances in May, making it the second-highest monthly remittance inflow in the country`s history.
In April, remittance inflows stood at $3.1273 billion. In March, the country received $3.75505 billion, setting a new record for the highest monthly remittance inflow in Bangladesh`s history.
During the first two months of the year, remittances totaled $3.17094 billion in January and $3.02076 billion in February.
