US President Donald Trump has nominated Brent Christensen to serve as the next American ambassador to Bangladesh.
The White House announced the nomination on Tuesday, stating that Christensen’s name has been forwarded to the US Senate for approval.
Under US procedure, ambassadorial nominations are made by the president and must be confirmed by the Senate before the appointment is finalized.
According to the State Department, Christensen is a senior Foreign Service officer with prior experience in Dhaka. From 2019 to 2021, he served at the US Embassy in Bangladesh as Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs.
If confirmed, Christensen will succeed Peter Haas, who served as the 17th US ambassador to Bangladesh from March 2022 until April 2024. Haas retired from the Foreign Service on September 27, 2024.
