Air pollution in Dhaka reached a worrying level on Tuesday morning, placing the city at the top of the global pollution ranking.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 169, which falls under the “unhealthy” category and may pose serious health risks to residents.
Kuwait City ranked second on the list, followed by Delhi in third place.
According to AQI standards, readings between 151 and 200 are considered unhealthy, while higher levels indicate more severe health dangers.
The AQI measures pollution based on key elements such as fine particles, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and ozone.
Dhaka has long struggled with poor air quality, especially during the dry winter season. Conditions usually improve during the rainy months.
The World Health Organization says air pollution causes millions of deaths globally each year, mainly due to heart and lung diseases.
Experts advise limiting outdoor activities and taking precautions during periods of high pollution.
