A number of people are suffering from mental illness due to environmental pollution globally, with several studies revealing that such pollutions badly affect human intelligence and spread dementia while harming the entire human body, speakers told a programme.

Citing the issues, they said that there is no alternative to fighting environmental pollution through mass awareness.

They were addressing a programme titled “Environmental Care for Mental Repair” organised by the non-profit organsation Aidmeuk marking Environment Day on Wednesday in York, England.

Aidmeuk CEO Maksud Raman, Finance Director Dewan Sayed Ahmed, Project and Planning Director Jihan Ahmed Chowdhury, Head of Communications Reaz Chowdhury, Head of Event Anamu Haq Kayes, Head of Volunteers Abdus Shaheed and event planner Md Tajum Ullah addressed the event near the city’s Shambles Corner.

Referring to several researchers, they said that the pollutions lead to depression, anxiety, psychosis and nerve disorders, including dementia. The normal mental growth of adolescents may be hindered by those, the speakers said.

According to researchers, the mental problems are prompted by poor accommodation, overcrowding and slack greenery.

Environmental pollution can be resisted and for that, several tools and strategies can be applied.

For instance, air pollution can be reduced with the help of modern technology and this is way easier than treating people with mental issues caused by air pollution.
