AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, deputy minister for water resources, stated on Thursday that appropriate government agencies are identifying riverbank erosion-prone areas to prevent harm to agricultural land and other properties.
"We have identified 54 riverbank erosion risky areas in 22 districts analyzing long-range weather forecast... the government directed the relevant organization to take measures accordingly," he told a meeting held at Choria village under Atpara upazila in the district, reports BSS.
The deputy minister claimed that the magnitude of damages brought on by riverbank erosion had greatly decreased because the government is responding quickly to catastrophic occurrences.
He stated: "Every year, riverbank erosion causes many citizens of the nation to lose their homes and their land. This is a tragedy that frequently affects Bangladesh, and we are putting together a 100-year delta plan to ensure better management of the water resource sector."
