The high court on Tuesday directed the authorities concerned to submit plans to identify mostly air-polluted areas and to reduce pollution.
A virtual high court bench of justice Farah Mahbub and justice SM Moniruzzaman passed the order during a hearing on a writ petition.
Bangladesh Environment Lawyers Association (BELA) filed a writ petition seeking directives to prevent air pollution in the country.
Lawyer Rizwana Hasan took part in the hearing in favour of the writ while deputy attorney general Samrendra Nath Bishwas represented the state.
The high court further asked to introduce the alert system to protect the people from unhealthy and dangerous air and install Continuous Air Monitoring Station (CAMS) to observe the air quality at open places.
Besides, the court ordered to develop and implement the alternative method to burning bricks.
The defendants have been directed to submit a report on the implementation of the directives within four months
The HC bench set 26 June for the next hearing.
