Cyclone Mocha, which is building in the south-east Bay of Bengal, is expected to proceed north-northwest till May 10 before turning south-east towards Bangladesh and the bordering Myanmar shores on May 11, according to the Indian Met Department.
According to its model guidance, strengthening of up to a catastrophic cyclonic storm is expected.
According to the IMD, a cyclonic flow is expected to form over the south-east Bay of Bengal around tomorrow, and a low pressure area is expected to form over the same region around May 7.
It might form a depression over the same area around May 8 and then "intensify into a cyclonic storm while moving almost northward towards the central Bay of Bengal," according to the forecast.
According to the IMD, details about the cyclone's path and strengthening will be provided only after the establishment of a low pressure area on May 7.
Yemen has given the incoming storm the name Mocha in honor of its port city, Mocha, is well-known for its coffee industry.
