13 more die from measles, measles-like symptoms in 24 hours

Over the past 24 hours, another 13 children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms in the country. Among them, one child was confirmed to have a measles infection. With this, the total number of child deaths from measles and suspected measles symptoms since March 15 has reached 512, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The information was published in a measles-related report issued by the DGHS on Saturday. The report said that between 8:00 a.m. Friday and 8:00 a.m. Saturday, a further 1,967 children across the country developed measles-like symptoms.

Among the new deaths, the child confirmed to have measles was from the Barishal Division. Of the suspected cases, four children died in Dhaka Division, two in Chattogram, four in Sylhet, one in Barishal, and one in Mymensingh.

According to DGHS data, since March 15, a total of 426 children have died from measles-like symptoms, while another 86 deaths were confirmed as measles infections.

During the same period, a total of 62,507 children nationwide have shown measles-like symptoms. Of them, 49,389 were admitted to hospitals, and 45,011 have recovered and returned home after treatment.
