2 more children die with measles-like symptoms in 24 hours

Two more children have died with measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours. During the same period, 946 new children were reported to have measles or measles-like symptoms.

The information was revealed in an updated measles report released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday afternoon.

The DGHS said the two children who died within the previous 24 hours until 8:00am Thursday had shown measles-like symptoms. However, no deaths from confirmed measles cases were reported during this period.

According to the report, a total of 747 children have died with measles or measles-like symptoms in the country since March 15. Of them, 93 deaths were confirmed to have been caused by measles.

The DGHS said 92,031 children with measles-like symptoms have been admitted to hospitals across the country so far. Among them, 88,419 children have recovered and been discharged after receiving treatment.

According to the directorate’s statistics, the total number of suspected measles cases in the country has reached 108,998 since March 15. Laboratory tests have confirmed measles infections in 13,198 children.
