Two more children have died from measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours, while 1,014 new cases of measles and related symptoms have been reported during the same period. With these deaths, the number of fatalities from measles and its symptoms has risen to 805 since March 15, according to data released up to Thursday (July 23).
The information was revealed in the regular measles situation report published by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday.
The DGHS said one child each died from measles symptoms in Sylhet and Rangpur divisions over the past day. Of the 805 children who have died from measles and related symptoms nationwide since March 15, 710 deaths were linked to measles symptoms, while 95 were caused by confirmed measles infections.
According to the report, 166 children were newly diagnosed with measles in the past 24 hours, while another 848 children developed measles-related symptoms. Since March 15, a total of 121,200 children across the country have been reported with measles symptoms, while 15,007 children have tested positive for measles.
Data from the DGHS showed that 103,863 children have been admitted to hospitals across the country with measles and related symptoms since March 15. Of them, 100,188 children have recovered and been discharged after receiving treatment.
