3 more children die with measles-like symptoms in 24 hours

Three more children have died with measles-like symptoms in the country over the past 24 hours, according to health authorities.

The deaths occurred between 8:00 a.m. Sunday and 8:00 a.m. Monday, during which a total of 1,106 children were reported infected with measles and measles-like illnesses.

The information was disclosed in a latest measles update report issued this afternoon by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The report said that although three children died with symptoms of measles during the period, none of the deaths have been confirmed as directly caused by measles.

Since March 15, a total of 648 children have died with measles-like symptoms in the country. In the same period, another 93 children have died from confirmed measles, bringing the combined death toll from measles and related conditions to 741.

According to DGHS data, 159 children were newly infected with measles in the past 24 hours, while 947 cases were recorded as measles-related illnesses. During the same period, 890 children were admitted to hospitals and 940 were discharged after treatment.

Since March 15, the total number of suspected measles cases in the country has reached 106,565, while confirmed cases stand at 12,791. During this period, 89,734 patients have been hospitalized, of whom 86,062 have recovered and returned home.
