4 more children die with measles-like symptoms in 24 hours

Four more children have died with measles-like symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours, while 1,005 people were newly identified with either confirmed measles or suspected infections during the same period.

The information was disclosed in the regular measles situation report released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday.

According to the report, a total of 835 people have died from measles or measles-related symptoms since March 15. Of them, 739 died with measles symptoms, while 96 deaths were confirmed to have been caused by measles.

The DGHS said two children died with measles symptoms in the Dhaka division over the past 24 hours. One child each also died in the Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions during the same period.

Meanwhile, 135 new measles cases were confirmed nationwide in the past 24 hours, while another 870 people developed symptoms consistent with the disease. This brings the total number of new confirmed and suspected infections reported in a single day to 1,005.

Since March 15, a total of 127,410 people across the country have developed measles symptoms, while 15,874 cases have been laboratory confirmed.

According to DGHS data, 110,182 people with measles or suspected measles symptoms have been admitted to hospitals nationwide since March 15. Of them, 106,053 have recovered and been discharged.
