5 more children die with measles-like symptoms in 24 hours

Five more children have died with measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 1,069 new cases of measles and measles-like symptoms have been reported during the same period.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the figures in its latest measles situation report released on Monday.

According to the DGHS data, the highest number of deaths with measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours was reported in the Sylhet division, where three children died. One child each died in Dhaka and Chattogram divisions, bringing the total deaths during the period to five.

Since March 15, a total of 793 children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms in the country, according to the report. Of them, 698 deaths were linked to measles-like symptoms, while 95 were confirmed measles-related deaths.

Meanwhile, 147 children were newly diagnosed with measles in the past 24 hours, while another 922 children developed measles-like symptoms.

The DGHS report said that since March 15, a total of 118,570 children in Bangladesh have been reported with measles-like symptoms, while 14,578 children have been diagnosed with measles.

During this period, 101,026 children with measles or measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals across the country. Of them, 97,532 children recovered and were discharged after receiving treatment.
