Seven more children have died in the past 24 hours (from 8:00 AM on April 12 to 8:00 AM on April 13) due to measles and measles-like symptoms. Of them, two children died from confirmed measles, while the remaining five died with symptoms consistent with the disease, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The information was shared in a press release issued by the health authorities on Monday (April 12) afternoon.
The release said that during the same period, 729 children were admitted to hospitals across the country with measles-like symptoms, while 82 cases of measles were confirmed. In addition, 1,371 children showed symptoms consistent with measles, including 615 in the Dhaka division alone.
Among admitted patients, the highest number was recorded in the Dhaka division with 274 hospitalizations. The lowest admissions were in Rangpur with 11 cases and Mymensingh with 17 cases.
During this period, 713 children were discharged from hospitals. Of them, 305 were from the Dhaka division, 12 from Rajshahi, and 103 each from Chattogram and Khulna divisions.
According to DGHS data, since March 15, a total of 30 children have died from measles nationwide. During the same period, 156 children have died with measles-like symptoms.
In total, out of 17,024 children who presented with measles-like symptoms during this period, 10,954 were hospitalized. Among them, 2,721 were confirmed to have measles, while 8,369 children have recovered and returned home.
