Seven more children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms across the country, health authorities said. Of them, six children died with measles symptoms, while one death from measles has been officially confirmed.
With these latest fatalities, the total number of deaths linked to measles and measles-like symptoms in the past 54 days has risen to 343. Among them, 285 children died with measles symptoms, while the Health Directorate has confirmed 58 deaths caused by measles.
The information was disclosed in the latest report published by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday. According to the report, the data covers the period from 8:00 am Thursday (May 7) to 8:00 am Friday.
Of the seven children who died in the past 24 hours, three were from Sylhet Division. Two deaths were reported in Dhaka Division, while Khulna and Barishal divisions each recorded one death.
During the same period, 1,212 suspected measles cases were reported across the country’s eight divisions. Among them, 950 children were admitted to hospitals.
In the last 24 hours alone, measles infection was confirmed in 282 children. Dhaka Division recorded the highest number of confirmed cases, with 204 infections, followed by Chattogram Division with 46 cases.
Meanwhile, 914 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering during the same period.
