8 more children die with measles-like symptoms in 24 hours

Eight more children have died with measles-like symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours, while 1,171 new cases of measles and measles-like symptoms have been reported during the same period.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information in its regular measles situation report released on Thursday.

According to the DGHS, three deaths with measles-like symptoms were reported in Dhaka division in the last 24 hours. Two deaths were recorded in Khulna division, while one death each was reported in Sylhet, Mymensingh and Chattogram divisions.

The health authorities said a total of 779 people have died from measles and measles-like symptoms nationwide between March 15 and Thursday.

Meanwhile, 197 new measles cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours, while another 974 people showed measles-like symptoms.

With these latest figures, the total number of people affected by measles and measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh since March 15 has reached 115,138. Of them, 14,104 have been confirmed to have measles.

According to the DGHS report, 97,919 people have been admitted to hospitals across the country with measles and measles-like symptoms since March 15. Among them, 94,275 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
