9 more children die with measles-like symptoms in 24 hours

Nine more children have died with measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Eight of the deceased children were from the Dhaka Division.

The information was disclosed on Thursday in the DGHS’s regular measles situation report.

According to the report, since March 15, a total of 605 children have died with measles-like symptoms. In addition, laboratory tests have confirmed measles-related deaths in 93 children. Combined, deaths from confirmed cases and measles-like symptoms have reached 698.

In the last 24 hours, 52 new measles cases were confirmed, raising the total number of confirmed infections since March 15 to 11,442.

The DGHS further reported that 893 more people developed measles-like symptoms over the same 24-hour period. Since March 15, the total number of suspected cases with measles-like symptoms has reached 96,653.

Since the outbreak began on March 15, a total of 80,497 patients with measles-like symptoms have been admitted to hospitals across the country. Of them, 76,788 have recovered and been discharged.
