The European Union is providing €175,000 in humanitarian funding to help prevent measles in Bangladesh.
The support will reach communities across Barisal, Chattogram, Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Rangpur and Mymensingh, according to the European Union Embassy in Dhaka.
The funding will be channelled through the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society to continue vaccination campaigns and carry out preventive steps such as distributing hygiene kits.
Vulnerable families will also receive cash assistance to manage costs related to illness, including travel to health centres and loss of income. Medical equipment will be supplied to healthcare facilities as part of the effort.
This support comes under the Disaster Response Emergency Fund managed by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
The EU remains a major humanitarian donor in Bangladesh. In 2026, it has already provided more than €23 million for aid programmes, including support for Rohingya refugees and host communities, as well as disaster preparedness and resilience activities.
Officials said the assistance reflects the EU’s broader commitment to saving lives, reducing suffering and supporting vulnerable populations during health and emergency situations.
