Bangladesh recorded five more deaths linked to measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours, taking the combined number of confirmed and suspected measles-related fatalities nationwide to 648.

The latest figures released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday showed that all five newly reported deaths have been categorized as suspected measles cases.

With the new additions, the number of suspected measles deaths has risen to 556, while the tally of laboratory-confirmed fatalities remains unchanged at 92.

Health authorities also reported 733 new suspected measles infections during the reporting period, pushing the cumulative number of suspected cases across the country to 84,899.

At the same time, 63 additional cases were confirmed through laboratory testing, bringing the total number of confirmed measles infections to 10,248.

The outbreak continues to place significant pressure on healthcare facilities nationwide. According to DGHS data, 69,606 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals since March 15.

Of those hospitalized, 65,852 have recovered and been discharged, while health officials continue to monitor the situation closely.

The latest update highlights the ongoing spread of the disease and underscores the importance of vaccination and early medical intervention to prevent severe complications among children.
