China has just discovered what could be the largest gold mine in the world, located in Hunan province. Experts believe the mine holds more than 1,000 tons of gold.
According to the Geological Bureau of Hunan, the new mine, found in the northeastern Pingjiang County, is estimated to be worth about 600 billion yuan.
This discovery is bigger than any previous find, including the South Deep mine in South Africa, which holds around 930 tons of gold.
Chen Rulin, a top expert at China’s Geological Bureau, told Xinhua News Agency that during excavation, they found gold in several areas of the mine.
The companies involved in the digging report that they’ve discovered 40 gold veins, or layers of gold ore, at a depth of about 2,000 meters.
These veins are believed to contain around 30 tons of gold. Further studies using 3D technology show that there’s even more gold deeper down, at a depth of 3,000 meters.
This new find is expected to make a huge impact on China’s gold industry, and it could significantly boost the country’s mining sector and overall economic growth.
