The toll of lives lost to the devastating floods and heavy rains tormenting Kenya has climbed to 228, as announced by the interior ministry on Sunday.
Kenya has been grappling with relentless downpours triggering widespread flooding and landslides in various parts of the country over the past few weeks. And unfortunately, the situation is not expected to improve as May progresses.
In a recent statement, the interior ministry issued a stark warning, highlighting the likelihood of further flooding in low-lying, riparian, and urban areas. Additionally, areas characterized by steep slopes, escarpments, and ravines are at risk of experiencing landslides and mudslides.
The catastrophic deluges have left a trail of destruction in their wake, decimating homes, roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure in East Africa`s largest economy.
According to the ministry`s report, at least 164 individuals have sustained injuries due to the adverse weather conditions. Moreover, a staggering 212,630 people have been forced to flee their homes, seeking refuge from the relentless fury of nature.
