An intense gunfight erupted on the India-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday evening, sparking fear among local residents.

Security forces clashed with suspected criminals in the Kathua area, but as of now, there have been no reports of any casualties.

Local sources say the confrontation began after security forces noticed three to five armed criminals in a nearby forest area, close to the international border.

Witnesses described the criminals as heavily armed, and authorities quickly launched an operation to contain the situation.

One local resident, Anita Devi, shared a harrowing account of the incident.

She explained that while she was collecting wood in the forest, her husband was held at gunpoint by the criminals.

“They held my husband at gunpoint and told me to go to them. But when my husband gave me a signal to run, I escaped. One of the criminals tried to stop me, but I screamed for help. When two other men, who were cutting grass nearby, came over, the criminals quickly left,” Anita told the media.

Local district development councilor Karan Kumar confirmed hearing at least 250 rounds of gunfire.

He also mentioned that the atmosphere in the area remained tense, with locals still on edge following the violent encounter.

As of now, authorities have not provided further details, and the situation in the area remains under close monitoring.
