The return of Rohingyas to Rakhain is not favorable: UN

The UN considers the situation in Myanmar‍‍`s Rakhain is not favorable for the return of Rohingyas. The Asia and Pacific Office of the United Nations Refugee Agency UNHCR in Bangkok, Thailand said this in a statement last Sunday.

UNHCR said that they are aware of a delegation from Myanmar is visiting Bangladesh to meet a group of Rohingyas. The visit is under a bilateral pilot project between Bangladesh and Myanmar. However, UNHCR is not involved in this discussion.

UNHCR also added that their opinion on the transfer of Rohingyas to Myanmar remains unchanged. In UNHCR‍‍`s assessment, the situation in Myanmar‍‍`s Rakhain is currently not favorable for the return of the Rohingyas permanently.

UNHCR believes that every Rohingya should know and have the right to express their views on whether or not they want to return to their country. No Rohingya should be forced to return home.

UNHCR is working with Myanmar to transfer Rohingyas in Rakhain, the statement said. The organization said it will continue to work with Bangladesh and Myanmar to ensure that Rohingyas participate in voluntary return. The organization will also support efforts to create favorable conditions for the permanent return of the Rohingyas in Myanmar‍‍`s Rakhain.
