Tamanna Nusrat Bubly, a former MP to a women’s reserved seat and wife of former Narsingdi municipal mayor Lokman Hossain, has been shown arrested in a case filed with Tejgaon Police Station over the detonation of improvised explosives during a flash procession.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Jonaid issued the order on Monday after a petition from the investigating officer, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi.
Police arrested Bubly from Mirpur in Dhaka during a special drive on the night of Sept 28. She was the following day sent to jail in a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act filed with Tejgaon Police Station, and has remained in custody since then.
On Apr 29, the investigating officer of the case, Tejgaon Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Shariful Islam, submitted a petition to show Bubly arrested in the same case.
The court scheduled Monday for a hearing in her presence, during which she was produced before it. The state was represented by public prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi, who supported the plea to show her arrested.
Following the hearing, the court ordered that she be shown arrested and sent back to jail.
The petition submitted by the investigation officer stated, “During the investigation of the case, after questioning locals and investigating the area, it was discovered that the suspect Bubly financed and ordered the procession. She actively participated in the procession by marching around the scene with other accused on Sept 7, 2025.
“Afterwards, she quickly left the area. Moreover, sufficient evidence has been found regarding her involvement in the incident noted in the case.”
Earlier, Tejgaon Police Station Sub-Inspector AKM Niazuddin Mollah filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act on Sept 7 last year over the improvised explosive blasts during the flash procession.
According to the case details, "On Sept 7, around noon, leaders and activists of the banned organisation Chhatra League and the Awami League, Jubo League and affiliated organisations – which have had their activities suspended - held a procession with banners in front of the Park Town Restaurant in 2/A Monipuripara in Tejgaon Thana in the capital.
“At one stage, they detonated two cocktail bombs, one after the other, with the aim of destabilising the state and creating panic among the people. Later, the police arrived at the scene around 1:35pm. The police arrested some of them and the rest fled."
