A gas pipeline in Dhaka`s Wari neighborhood was destroyed as workmen dug up soil to install an electricity connection, causing a fire that resulted in five burn injuries.
Engineer Anwar Hossain of the Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC), its employee Sohel, inspector Md Mamun of a developer business, and its security guards Helal and Abdur Rashid are among the injured in the incident happened at Tipu Sultan Road around 2:15am.
They were hurried to the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
For the past two weeks, according to Mamun who was hurt, DPDC employees have been digging up earth for electrical line construction.
“We were there to ensure that no utility lines of the site were damaged as the workmen began digging close to our under-construction building,” Mamun added.
The gas pipeline was damaged during the work, which led to a leak. They were hurt when a fire erupted unexpectedly, he claimed.
According to sources at the burn institute, Sohel had 80 percent of his body burned, followed by Mamun (12%), Anwar (22%), Helal (10%), and Rashid (7%).
Five firefighting units extinguished the fire at 5:30 am, according to Dinomoni Sharma, a deputy director of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
He said, “We discovered that the incident was caused by a gas pipe leak during digging operations by DPDC workers.”
