A tripartite clash took place among some students of Dhaka College, Ideal College and City College in the Science Laboratory area of the capital on Sunday (March 5) afternoon, where at least three got injured.
The chase counter-chase happened between 1:00pm and 2:30pm.
According to eyewitnesses, police lobbed tear-gas shells to disperse the students and after that the situation came under control of the law enforcers.
Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ikram Mia said, "We don't know the cause of the clash; perhaps the fight started between the first-year students over some issue."
At present the condition in Science Laboratory area is normal as police has taken the situation under control around 2:30pm, he added.
Meanwhile, traffic was stopped for a long time in the capital's Green Road area due to the clash. This caused severe traffic congestion in the surrounding areas including Farmgate, Newmarket.
However, the students said that the clash started after stone pelting on the bus of Ideal College. On last Thursday the students of Ideal College vandalized the bus of Dhaka College. Due to this incident, the students of Dhaka College came in front of Ideal College on that day and took off the name board of the college. It is believed that today's clash is due to bus vandalism of Dhaka College, some students said.
During today's clash, students wearing college uniforms of the trio mentioned institutes were seen.
