Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Ministry of Local Government, has stressed the urgent need to resolve the ongoing disruption of citizen services in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

He warned that the situation can no longer be ignored and assured that swift action will be taken.

Speaking on Thursday, June 19, at an event in the Cabinet Division, Asif Mahmud addressed the deadlock in DSCC, where supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain have been occupying the city corporation building, demanding his swearing-in as mayor.

Although the government has stated this is no longer procedurally possible, the protest continues. Ishraque Hossain has said that the movement will persist, but citizen services will remain operational under their supervision.

Asif said, "The disruption of citizen services has reached a level where we cannot sit idle. Immediate steps will be taken." He acknowledged the challenges in maintaining DSCC’s operations but assured that efforts are ongoing to continue essential services from outside the current gridlock.

Addressing concerns about the government’s perceived inaction, Bhuiyan clarified, "This government works through coordinated decisions. We prioritize responsible behavior from all sides while maintaining cordial relations with political parties."

He added, "We are doing our part, but the situation has gone beyond the point where silence is acceptable. The government is seriously considering the issue, and I will implement the decision taken at the highest level."

Regarding the growing dengue threat, he said that the matter is being addressed with urgency.

The Local Government Division has held several meetings, and though the city corporations‍‍` activities may not yet be fully visible, detailed updates will be provided soon along with public awareness initiatives.
