BNP leader Engineer Ishraque Hossain has alleged that the government is deliberately obstructing the services of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) through various means.
He claimed that despite continuous efforts to serve the city’s residents, the government itself is causing disruptions in these services.
Speaking on Wednesday while joining the ongoing movement of DSCC employees and the group "Amra Dhakabashi" at Nagar Bhaban, Ishraque expressed his concerns.
He said, "Even while the movement is ongoing, we have continued to provide emergency services. However, I have come to know that the government, especially the Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, has instructed city corporation officials to refrain from performing their duties."
Ishraque further alleged, "I have heard that the Local Government Adviser and the Secretary have directed regional executive officers not to sign birth certificates or citizenship documents. This is a disgraceful attempt. They are trying to disrupt services so that the blame can later be shifted onto us."
Responding to accusations against him, Ishraque said, "Yesterday, Asif Mahmud claimed that I have violated the law and committed a criminal offense. I would like to ask him, if I have really committed a crime, why haven’t you filed a complaint with the law enforcement authorities? Why are you not instructing the police to arrest me? We are not afraid of these threats. We have fought against the oppressive Hasina regime for 17 years, enduring imprisonment, forced disappearances, and all forms of persecution to establish people’s rights."
In a pointed remark directed at Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Ishraque added, "If so-called young advisers like you wish to talk to us, even that is an insult to us. Everything happening now is the government`s responsibility. The government is using such individuals to engage with us in an attempt to demean and belittle us."
