At least two people were killed as a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw collided with a truck on Friday morning in the capital’s Jatrabari area and several others sustained injuries.
According to police, Momin Mia, a 37-year-old CNG-run auto rickshaw driver from Narayanganj, and Palash, a 50-year-old fish trader from Munshiganj, were identified as the deceased.
The injured are fish dealers Shah Ali, 36, and Sumon, 40.
Jatrabari Police Station, sub-inspector Salman Rahman said that the accident occurred around 4am.
He added, “Since the truck driver suddenly stopped his vehicle in the middle of the road in front of Dania College, the auto-rickshaw crashed into the truck while going to Jatrabari wholesale fish market.”
However, police failed to seize the truck, he acknowledged.
All the four were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the two were declared dead, Slaman added.
