Nagar Bhaban padlocked as sit-in of Ishraque supporters rolls into 5th day

The sit-in protest by supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain at Nagar Bhaban, the headquarters of Dhaka South City Corporation, has entered its fifth consecutive day on Sunday.

The demonstrators are demanding that Ishraque Hossain be sworn in immediately as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation.

During the ongoing protest, former secretary Moshiur Rahman addressed the crowd and announced a blockade program scheduled for Monday.

The blockade will surround Nagar Bhaban and its adjacent areas, starting at 11am, aimed at intensifying pressure to meet their demand.

Earlier in the day, around noon, the protesters took out a rally from Nagar Bhaban, marching through key locations such as Gulistan, the Secretariat, the National Press Club, and Shikkha Bhaban.

After completing the procession, they returned to Nagar Bhaban to continue their sit-in demonstration, showing no signs of backing down.

The prolonged protest and the upcoming blockade reflect growing unrest among Ishraque’s supporters over the delay in his formal swearing-in as mayor, which they say undermines the democratic mandate
