The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has assured that there are no security threats surrounding Ashura observances in the capital this year.
Acting Commissioner and Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Sarwar stated that maximum security measures have been implemented around all Shia religious sites across Dhaka.
He made the announcement during a press briefing on Thursday after visiting the historic Hoseni Dalan Imambara in Lalbagh, a central location for Ashura commemorations.
According to DMP, extensive security arrangements have been put in place for the Tazia processions scheduled for July 6 (10th of Muharram).
Key roads where processions will occur are being closely monitored using CCTV cameras and watch towers.
Additionally, checkpoints have been strengthened in the surrounding areas to ensure public safety.
Md. Sarwar urged residents to avoid the procession routes to help reduce public inconvenience.
He also emphasized that fireworks, firecrackers, and the carrying of any metal or flammable objects during the processions are strictly prohibited.
