On Saturday, Md Nahid Islam, Adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, instructed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to supply diesel free of charge for generators to ensure the continued operation of mobile network towers in Feni District.
The ministry`s press release highlights that due to ongoing power outages, there is a significant need for diesel to keep 78 mobile towers in Feni functional. Maintaining these towers is critical given the current flood conditions.
The adviser has directed the BTRC to cover the cost of the necessary diesel. The release details that a portable generator (75 kVA) consumes 2.3 liters of diesel per hour, while each 30 kVA generator uses 4.4 liters. With 78 generators in use, the daily diesel consumption totals 6,552 liters, costing approximately Tk714,168.
Over a seven-day period, the total diesel requirement is 45,864 liters, amounting to around Tk4,999,176. The BTRC’s fund will cover these expenses, according to the adviser’s directive.
