BNP leader hacked to death in Jashore

Abdul Mannan (55), a local BNP leader from Monirampur upazila in Jashore, was hacked to death allegedly over a family dispute related to land. He died late Sunday night while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Mannan was a resident of Dumurkhali village in Hariharnagar Union and served as the president of the local ward unit of BNP. He was the son of Ejhar Morol.

According to family and local sources, the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when Mannan and his wife, Fuli Begum, were allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon by Mannan’s nephew, Rahmatullah—the son of his younger brother Abdul Hannan. The attack reportedly stemmed from a longstanding land dispute within the family.

Both Mannan and his wife were seriously injured in the attack and were first taken to Jashore General Hospital. They were later referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Mannan succumbed to his injuries late Sunday night.

Speaking on the incident, Monirampur BNP Vice-President and former chairman of Hariharnagar Union Parishad, Gazi Abdus Sattar, said, “Mannan always tried to resolve family conflicts peacefully. But his younger brother Hannan and his family were uncooperative. Ultimately, Mannan lost his life.”

After the attack, Rahmatullah and his parents—Abdul Hannan and Reshma Khatun—were also admitted to Jashore General Hospital, where they were kept under police surveillance.

Monirampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Babulur Rahman Khan confirmed that a murder case has been filed in connection with the incident. The three accused—Abdul Hannan, Reshma Khatun, and Rahmatullah—have been arrested.
