JUCSU election: Chaos at female hall polling center over alleged fake votes

A disruption occurred at the polling center of Female Hall No. 15 at Jahangirnagar University on Thursday around 12:00 pm, triggered by reports of alleged fake voting. The incident temporarily halted voting for nearly 45 minutes.

According to three eyewitness students, supporters of the Chhatra Dal-affiliated panel, including VP candidate Sheikh Sadi Hasan and several followers, entered the hall after hearing rumors that Chhatra Shibir supporters were casting fake votes.

Eyewitnesses also claimed that Professor Nazrul Islam, principal of Fazilatunnesa Hall, and several journalists were present during the incident. Two staff members stationed at the hall’s entrance told reporters that despite their attempts to prevent the entry of the students and a teacher accompanying them, the group did not comply.

Hall Principal Shamima Sultana stated that the ink used for voting was not remaining on the fingers for a sufficient duration, so voting was temporarily paused to replenish the ink. She confirmed that some disorder occurred during this time and assured that measures would be taken.

Professor Nazrul Islam of Fazilatunnesa Hall, a member of the election monitoring team, clarified that he did not require special permission to enter the hall and went there upon hearing allegations of fake voting, without accompanying any candidates.

JUCSU Election Commission Secretary Professor AKM Rashidul Alam emphasized that entry without proper permission is not allowed.

Sheikh Sadi Hasan, VP candidate from the Chhatra Dal-supported panel, said the group had entered the hall with the approval of the proctor after receiving credible allegations of fake voting. He added that some students attempted to create disorder during the process.
