Police have arrested Sohel Rana in connection with the brutal murder of a mother and daughter in Ramganj, Lakshmipur.

The victims, Zulekha Begum, wife of businessman Mizanur Rahman, and their college-going daughter Tanha Akhtar Mim, were reportedly slit-throat murdered at their home.

Sohel Rana was apprehended early Saturday morning from the Chandipur area. He is the son of Mozammel Hossain Bahar from North Chandipur and the nephew of the complainant, Mizanur Rahman.

Additional Police Superintendent (Administration & Finance) Hossain Mohammad Raihan Kazemi stated that the arrested suspect has provided significant information regarding the crime.

Authorities plan to seek remand for further interrogation. Police are also working to uncover the full details of the murder and apprehend any other suspects involved.

Meanwhile, Shahadat Hossain Selim, spokesperson of the 12-party alliance and chairman of Bangladesh LDP, who attended the victims’ funeral, issued a 72-hour ultimatum for the arrest of the perpetrators. He warned that if the suspects are not apprehended, protesters may resort to raiding the local police station.

Ramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Bari confirmed that Mizanur Rahman filed a murder case against unknown assailants. He added that the case is being investigated seriously, and police operations are ongoing.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening, when assailants entered the family home in North Chandipur village, murdered Zulekha Begum and her daughter by slitting their throats, and fled with gold ornaments.

The victims’ bodies were sent to the district hospital morgue for postmortem and were later buried in a family graveyard following the autopsy and funeral on Friday evening.
