With all eyes on Sylhet and Sunamganj, where the flood situation keeps worsening, Jamalpur has now went under water.
A total of five unions of Islampur upazila of the district were inundated today due to onrush of water from the hills, reports BSS.
Water Development Board sources said water level in the river Jamuna rose by 64 cm and was flowing 11 cm above the red mark at Bahadurabad ghat point till 3 pm on Friday.
According to sources, low lying areas in Patharshi, Kulkandi, Belgachha, Chinaduli and Noarpara union in Islampur upazila were also deluged.
Deputy Director (In-charge), Department of Agriculture Extension. Zakia Sultana said standing crops on 379 hectares of land of which Aush on 53 hectare, jute on 265 hectare, vegetable on 50 hectare and green chilly on 11 hectare have been inundated by flood water in the district.
Islampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Tanvir Hassan said flood water has entered the low lying areas of the Upazila. Various educational institutes of the upazila are being prepared for flood shelter for the flood-affected people.
