Shamim Ahmed, a firefighter stationed at Tongi Fire Station, has died from severe burns sustained while responding to a chemical warehouse explosion in Tongi, Gazipur.
He passed away on Tuesday (September 23) at 3:00 pm while undergoing treatment in the ICU at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
Resident surgeon Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman confirmed that four individuals were admitted following Monday’s explosion, and Shamim Ahmed succumbed to his injuries in the ICU, having suffered burns over 100% of his body. Three others remain hospitalized, with two in critical condition.
Talha Bin Jasim of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Media Wing stated that Shamim Ahmed will be honored with a funeral at the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters after Maghrib prayers.
Shamim Ahmed joined the Fire Service in 2004. Originally from Netrokona district, he is survived by his three children.
