The military forces will be deployed on January 3 to ensure law and order across Bangladesh ahead of the 12th national elections.
According to a letter from the Armed Forces Division (AFD), they will be in the field for eight days, until January 10.
Brig Gen Husain Muhammad Masihur Rahman signed the letter on behalf of the Armed Forces` chief of staff.
Following the Election Commission`s request to organize the 12th parliamentary election in a free, fair, neutral, and peaceful manner, an order has been issued to deploy armed forces across Bangladesh from January 3 to January 10.
The national elections are set for January 7.
Role of the armed forces ahead of national polls
- The armed forces will be deployed in strategic locations throughout each district, upazila, and metro area.
- Military members will be deployed in the district, upazila, and thana along with the returning officers.
- Along with the armed forces team, executive magistrates will be nominated by the returning officers, and actions will be taken in accordance with the law.
- The area-based deployment plan would be finalized with the request and coordination of the relevant returning officer, and additional legal actions should be taken at the request of the returning officer and assistant returning officer.
- Before and after the voting day, detailed planning should be carried out including the duration of taking and deploying steps.
