Around 1,064 ruling party nomination seeker collected the forms of Awami League on the first day of selling forms ahead of 12th national election in Bangladesh.
Awami League’s office secretary Barrister Biplab Barua said this at a press conference after ending distribution of nomination forms on Saturday.
Among the collected nomination papers, 14 collected through online, while the rest collected in-person.
The ruling party generated Tk 5.32 crore as an income against selling nomination papers at Tk 50 thousand each.
So far 213 aspirants have collected nomination forms physically from Dhaka division, 198 from Chattogram division, 170 from Rajshahi division, 125 from Khulna division, 55 from Sylhet division, 75 from Barisal division, 105 from Mymensingh division and 109 from Rangpur division.
Aspirants can collect nomination papers from party`s central office at 23 Bangabandhu Avenue between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. staring from November 18 and will continue till November 21; and also through online.
To coordinate the pressure, the party high-ups forced to enhance the closing window for an extra hour of selling nomination forms for the day.
Candidates are requested to collect and submit the application form themselves or through a representative on behalf of the candidate, avoiding excessive crowds as the law enforcers had to stop traffic in the adjacent area.
Sheikh Hasina, President of the Awami League and Prime Minister of Bangladesh, formally launched the process at 10:30 a.m., however the sale of nomination papers for party candidates began after 11:00 a.m.
Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, a member of the AL advisory council, collected the first nomination form from the PM for the Gopalganj-3 constituency.
Photocopy of National Identity Card of the candidate, mobile number written on the photocopy, three political posts with organizational identity and Tk 50,000, the nomination form price.
The date of the 12th National Election is set for January 7.
