The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has applied to the High Court seeking cancellation of the bail of the expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat in the case of amassing wealth beyond known income.
ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan confirmed the matter to the media on Saturday. He said that the hearing on the application for canceling Samrat’s bail may be heard on Sunday.
On 22 August, Judge Al Asad Md. Asifuzzaman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 granted interim bail to Samrat on condition.
He was granted bail till September 19 on the grounds of ill health.
Samrat was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital due to illness despite getting bail on 22 August. He was discharged from the hospital on Thursday. He walked out of jail 2 years 10 months 22 days.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Samrat in an anti-casino operation on 6 October, 2019. During his arrest, foreign liquor was recovered from his residence. Besides, the mobile court sentenced him to six months' imprisonment after raiding his office and recovering weapons and animal skins.
